Troubleshooting Common AC Problems

Troubleshooting Common AC Problems

North Texas has seen a heat wave roll through the past few weeks. Air conditioners all across Denton County are putting in hard work to keep everyone cool. The Strittmatter SuperTechs are working just as hard to make sure you and your family are cool and comfortable this season. But when an AC problem arises, you might be able to provide a quick fix by troubleshooting with some of these handy tips.

Your AC isn’t cooling well

Your air conditioner might be blowing air, but it’s not exactly cold. Keep in mind that most air conditioners are designed to keep the inside of your home 20-25 degrees cooler than the temperatures outside. So if it’s 107 degrees outside, your air conditioner is not designed to keep your home cooled to 65 degrees. But if inadequate cool air is still the case, take a look at your condenser. The warm air might be a result of a dirty or blocked outdoor unit. Make sure to remove any debris, greenery, or blockage around the outdoor unit to see if that fixes the problem.

Another cause can be a dirty or clogged air filter. Be sure to swap out used filters for a fresh one every 30 days to keep air moving freely throughout your home.

Your AC isn’t cooling at all

No cool air in the summer is a nightmare! If you find yourself with an AC that won’t cool at all (and you’ve already checked the thermostat, filters, and outside unit), the best bet is to call a professional. No cool air can be caused by a number of things.

  • Faulty condenser
  • Ice buildup
  • Power issues
  • Bad compressor
  • Low or leaky refrigerant

Don’t suffer in the heat! Call the Strittmatter SuperTechs at the first sign of your ac not cooling.

Your AC won’t turn on

If your air conditioner won’t turn on at all, there are a few things you can troubleshoot. First, make sure your outside unit is running and connected. Next, check to make sure your thermostat is set to “on” and “cool”. It can help to take a look at the owner’s manual for your thermostat to see if everything is set properly. If you don’t have the manual, you can usually find it online with a quick Google search.

If these tips don’t work, check for a blown fuse or tripped breaker to see if that is the source of the problem.
