The weather is warming up out there. It’s time to enjoy the sunshine and get started on your spring cleaning! At Strittmatters, we love providing tips to make your house a home. So take a look at some of our organizational and cleaning tips to get your home in spotless condition for the season.

The first step in spring cleaning is getting rid of all the clutter! If you’ve got piles stacking up around the house or overflowing closets, you’ll want to start by deciding what you need to keep, what you need to donate, and what needs to be thrown out. It helps to gather several large moving boxes to collect your keep, donate, and trash items. Some things to consider when deciding which box to place things in:

  • Have you used this item in the past year or so?
  • Do you have duplicates of this item?
  • Does this item have sentimental value

Now that you’ve donated and trashed the appropriate items, it’s time to start organizing. You can use the boxes from earlier to group like items before finding their permanent place in your home. For some organizational tricks and tips, check out this blog to kickstart your ideas.

Everything is decluttered and organized, so it’s time to move on to cleaning. At Strittmatters, we are committed to going green whenever possible. Ditch the harsh chemicals and clean using more natural substances. These products work just as well as chemical cleaners, and you might already have them around your home. Here’s a list to get you started:

  • Borax
  • Liquid castile soap
  • Essential oils
  • Newspaper

You can clean glass by mixing 1/4 vinegar with 1 quart of water. Use a squirt bottle to spray on and the newspapers to wipe off. Vinegar can be used to clean a ton of surfaces in your home. It can be used to disinfect by mixing  2 teaspoons of borax, 4 tablespoons of vinegar, 3 cups of hot water, and 1/4 teaspoon of liquid castile soap. Just spray it down and wipe it up.

You can also mix 4 cups of vinegar with a gallon of hot water to clean your floors. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil and fill your home with a great scent the natural way.

One of the best ways to prepare your home for the upcoming season is getting a tuneup on your air conditioning unit. Scheduling preventive maintenance now sets up your family for a great start to spring. During a tuneup, our expert SuperTechs will inspect all aspects of your unit to make sure everything is running at peak efficiency. When everything is working correctly, you don’t waste energy or money. And those savings can show up on your monthly utility bill!
